The Friday, March 3rd issue of The New York Times had an article titled "Four Little Manhattan Museums That Are Big". One of the featured museums was the American Numismatic Society. Here are a couple quotes:
Filthy lucre looks wholesome and interesting in "The World of Coins," a history of units of exchange, including cowrie shells, beads, paper money, and credit cards.
The ANS has five curators--specializing in Greek, Roman, Islamic and Near Eastern, medieval, and modern-era coins--who will actually show the collection's hidden treasures to visitors who call ahead with specific requests.
Museum hours are 9-4:30 Tue-Sat, and 1-4 Sunday. Admission is free. For info call: +1 212 234-3130. The museum is on Broadway at 155th Street in Washington Heights.
