The origins of the Coins list (based on hurried recollection and without aid of secondary sources).
In November/December 1992 a number of people were discussing coins on the USENET newsgroup rec.collecting. Robert Holder volunteered to create an email reflector discussion group called <coins@rocky.gov>. Robert was the list manager until mid-May 1993 when he changed jobs. Daniel Power became the list manager/owner at that time. The list membership was approximately 50-60 subscribers. The Coins list has grown and evolved since that time. <coins@uni.edu> has approximately 240 subscribers and is a global, virtual coin club. Daniel Power wrote the New Member Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) documents. Power and the COINS membership were active in creating the USENET newsgroup rec.collecting.coins. <coins@uni.edu> is evolving as a virtual coin club for "serious" numismatists, people involved with numismatics professionally, and amateur collectors/accumulators who like have access to a group of enthusiatic coins/paper-money/token collectors.
